We love a good story. And a good deed. A friend in the wine world needed a wee bit of help, and in the process we were informed about this fantastic small production olive oil from the northern area of Basilicata. This is Elena Fucci’s Titolio.

This is sublime, powerful, and spicy with distinct notes of almond. The primary cultivar is Ogliarola del Vulture, estate-grown in a grove aged 30-40 years, where the soil is comprised of volcanic layers of lava, lapilli, ash, and clay. This small production is harvested by hand and milled between granite stones. Very low production, only 2500 half-liter bottles, and only a small allocation comes to the US.

Your nose will be delighted with aromas of dill, fennel, artichoke, pepper and hay. On the palate, it is intensely fruity and complex with citrusy-spicy notes. This well-balanced extra virgin olive oil pairs nicely with vegetable crudité, seafood, beef tartare, and vegetable based soups.

Elena Fucci, is an amazing young winemaker who, in just a few years, has received the coveted Tre Bicchieri award from the Gambero Rosso for 13 of those 15 vintages! Perhaps even more by now, but we don’t follow wine as closely as we follow olive oil.
