Over the Border

Throughout history Istria has been challenged by invaders and takeovers. In just over a century, the lands of Istria have been controlled under Austria, Italy, Yugoslavia, and Croatia. On the easternmost tip of Italy, Trieste is the Italian port closest to and bordering Croatia, and this nearby area of Croatia is the home to fine olive growers.
