We were fortunate to be introduced to the producers Paolo Miceli and Sergio Sensat; their passion for EVOO stems back several generations. Their organic olive grove covers 115 hectares with 46,000 olive trees of five varieties (Nocellara del Belice, Biancolilla, Cerasuola, Arbequina and Picual). This is a uniquely modern farm with a very high quality production. In the first year of production, their oils placed highly in a wide range of international contests, and they gained acclaim for one of the most surprising new entries.
The olives, from the farm south of Palermo, are processed within two hours of harvesting in the company mill. The extra virgin olive oils are stored in the cellar and topped with noble gases and maintained with controlled temperatures to preserve their very high organoleptic qualities.
U’Ciuri from Miceli & Sensat stands out with the intense aromas of tomato, fresh cut grass and aromatic herbs. In the mouth it is bitter and spicy yet harmonious, with a long and pleasing persistence.
U’Ciuri was selected as an outstanding demonstration of the olive cultivar, Nocellara del Belice. At Miceli & Sensat, the variety is farmed at fields of various altitudes above sea level. The olives were picked during the first 10 days of October, using the “brucatura” method to ensure the olives reach the mill in the perfect state.
Serve with salmon carpaccio, tomato-based starters, grilled fish, grilled white meats, tomato bruschetta, and meat couscous.
